About me
I don't like networking. That's why Mingo exists.
Hi, I'm Patrick. I can't do small talk, and I still built a tool that gets strangers talking.
My story as a bingo card
Tap the squares. Three in a row and you've got the whole story.
0 of 9 squares
Start anywhere. Every square is a piece of my story.
I can't do small talk
Nothing comes to mind, and honestly I don't want to learn.
Your job title barely matters to me
I don't care what someone does for a living. I care how they see things and approach them.
I don't just walk up to people
I often lack the confidence to approach someone without knowing where to begin.
I'd rather act as if we're already friends
I need context or a shared topic. Then I skip the formalities and just start.
An event that wasn't about partying
In my club, people from our target group were meant to connect. That's exactly what many find hard, or they don't know how.
Bingo cards for exactly our crowd
I built cards with several categories and handed them out right at the entrance.
Reading them was enough
People saw how to approach someone just by reading. Many talked with friends about things that would never have come up. Whether everything got done didn't matter.
Paper on purpose, not a phone
Getting to know each other should happen in real life. Only the prize draw had a small app: QR code on the card, register your entry, winners drawn and notified by email.
That became Mingo
The do-it-yourself version: tasks for your audience, cards as PDF, printed at the door. For everyone who would rather approach networking with a reason to talk than an intro round.
My favourite questions instead of small talk
I care how someone sees things. These questions work better for me than a job title.
